How we do it
Every design-build starts the same way: Wren walks your property with you, usually with muddy boots and a soil probe. She's looking at things most contractors skip — where the water goes in a storm, which slopes face north and stay cold into May, where the red clay turns to hardpan. The plan that comes out of that walk is drawn for your actual site, which is why our gardens still look right ten years in.
You receive a full master plan: scaled layout, 3D views of the major spaces, a complete plant list with botanical and common names, stone and material selections, and a line-item price for the whole build. If the budget needs phasing, we phase it honestly — infrastructure and drainage first, planting beds second, the fire pit when you're ready. The plan is yours either way.
Then Sam's crew builds it. One crew, ours, no subcontractors — the same four people from excavation to the last shovel of mulch. Hardscape goes on compacted stone base. Beds get ripped and amended twelve inches down, because a $40 shrub in a $5 hole dies and a $5 shrub in a $40 hole thrives. When we hand it back, you get the plant map and a season-by-season care sheet.

What does a typical design-build cost?
Most full-property projects land between $8,500 and $60,000 depending on stonework, grading, and plant density. After the site walk you get a line-item price, and it holds unless you change the scope. The $150 consult is credited against the project.
How long from consult to finished garden?
Design takes two to four weeks. Builds run one to six weeks on site depending on scope. We book six to ten weeks out in spring — a fall or late-summer start usually gets you on the calendar faster, and fall is honestly the best planting season in the mountains.
Can I buy just the design and build it myself?
Yes. The design fee runs $1,200–$3,500 by property size, and the plan is complete enough to hand to any competent builder — or to your own weekends. Plenty of clients phase it that way. We'd rather you have a real plan than wing it.
Do you work with architects or on new construction?
Often. We coordinate with builders on grading and drainage before final grade, which saves everyone money. If your lot is still mud and silt fence, that's actually the perfect time to call.
