Understory

The site walk

Start with a walk, not a brochure.

Every good garden we've built started the same way: 60–90 minutes on your property with Wren or a senior designer, reading the slope, the soil, and the water. You get written notes either way — and the full $150 comes off any project we build.

  1. 01

    Walk the land

Wren comes to you, walks every corner of the property, and reads the site: sun path, slope, drainage lines, what the soil is doing six inches down. You talk about how you actually want to live out there. $150, credited to the build.

  2. 02

    Draw the plan

You get a master plan with a scaled layout, a full plant list — botanical names and all — stone selections, and a line-item price. Not an estimate that doubles later. A price.

  3. 03

    Build it once

One crew, ours, start to finish. Sam runs every build. Drainage goes in before anything pretty does, stone gets set on proper base, and plants go in the ground the week they leave the nursery.

  4. 04

    Keep it thriving

A garden is a living thing — year one decides the next twenty. Our maintenance crew (actual horticulturists, pruning by hand) keeps what we built getting better every season.
